Life was sad here because we didn’t know what to do. What were we going to eat? Men cultivated their small piece of land, but it was tough to make it work. We also made our “mountain soup” to eat, and maybe that would work for one meal, but then we had to figure something else out for the next meal to avoid waking up the next day with nothing in our stomachs. Once my husband planted beans but not even one came up. Not even one bean sprouted, so after that we had to endure hunger.
