The Peace Accords

By:

Walter explains that combat between government forces and the guerrillas intensified during the negotiation of the Peace Accords.

Transcript:

Did you participate in the signing of the Peace Accords, or did you hear about them?

Yes, we participated, because in fact, at least for those of us who are ex-combatants, I’ll tell you, that was the time of the harshest combat. All of the units, during those days and months, that was when they carried out the most combat actions in order to pressure the government into negotiating. Otherwise, they would have maintained their operations in the zone, and if they found that the opposing force was weak, they would say,

“No way, why should we negotiate?”

So we forced the government to negotiate when they saw that there was still resistance.
