Chapter 8 – Struggle for Justice

Today, survivors of grave human rights violations committed during El Salvador’s civil war continue to struggle for truth and justice. In Arcatao and other communities across the country, survivors have organized to preserve and transmit their memories of the war to future generations. They have started legal cases demanding accountability for human rights violations. They have launched world-wide searches for their lost loved ones, and carried out exhumations to bring the remains of those killed home for dignified burial. In this chapter, residents of Arcatao discuss their ongoing work for justice.
